Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. And we’re back (in a big way).

We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. For us, flying is so much more than simply taking off and landing (although we understand that is quite important). It’s about going the extra mile, in the air and on the ground, to create authentic experiences that put our guests firmly at the heart of everything we do.

Who we’re looking for:

The Data Platform Lead is responsible for providing an exceptional enterprise data platform service, enabled by a team of engineers and an offshore vendor. The role works closely with business and technology stakeholders to drive the roadmap and delivery of the enterprise data platform along with enabling a number of transformation initiatives and Virgin Australia.

This role holds accountability for the services and life-cycle support specific to the Enterprise Data Platform portfolio, including resourcing, enhancing, innovating, and supporting capabilities in line with Business strategies and the Technology Roadmap. It will encompass a mix of technical leadership, agile (scrum) management, strategy and ops model development, resource planning, and stakeholder relations.

** This is a permanent role based in Brisbane only. **

What you’ll be doing:

  • Build and maintain strong and trusted relationships with stakeholders across various business units and internal technology teams
  • Own the data platform vendor relationships and management of vendor contracts and licencing.
  • Coordinate the delivery of consistent and effective technology services in relation to data management, in line with agreed data quality and governance practices.
  • Manage changes on the platform, including provision of estimates, resources planning, management of vendor statements of work, and leading the delivery of these changes on the platform.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies and provide guidance and support to ensure that all data-related activities follow applicable regulations and standards.

You’ll be great in this role if you have:

  • Experience implementing and utilising data platform technologies.
  • Strong experience with AWS, Databricks, Kafka, Alation, Customer Personalisation Technologies.
  • 5 plus years of experience running a data platform function in a large enterprise.
  • Good knowledge on Data management, data governance, and data storage principles.
